Exchange Europe Brings Tax Professionals Together
Published September 23rd, 2009
Vertex Inc., the leading provider of corporate enterprise tax solutions, hosted Vertex Exchange Europe 2009 on September 15 in London, UK. Following the success of Exchange Europe 2008, this year’s conference continued to explore the issues affecting efficient global tax management, current technology trends, and actionable strategies that are available to tax departments to mitigate risk and control costs.
“There is an ever increasing awareness among the tax community about the need to appropriately deploy tax compliance technology to more effectively manage a tax department,” said Alan James, Vertex Director of Client Solutions based in Vertex’s European office. “Attendees made the most of the opportunity to benchmark their technology needs and usage with each other and also just seemed to enjoy the opportunity to share their experiences with their peers.”
Jeff Westphal, CEO of Vertex, opened the session with a discussion about how tax professionals can leverage each other’s knowledge and experience to help develop strategies for driving innovation for corporate tax management and lifted up the Tax 2.0 organization as an example.
“Tax 2.0’s mission is to support the industry so they can mobilize toward building a vision for the future of tax operations,” said Westphal. “Tax 2.0’s goal ultimately is to unleash the strategic potential of corporate tax by collaboratively improving tax processes and operations.”
Carmel Moore, Director of European Tax Centre at Pfizer, delivered the conference keynote. Based on her recent experiences, she explored choices available to tax professionals in the effective management of a tax department. She also lifted up innovative ways to build a business case to get the resources needed to more effectively manage Indirect Taxes and addressed developing cost/benefit analysis and how to engage stakeholders to maximize the likelihood of a positive outcome.
The conference covered topics that included Future of Global Tax Management and Tax Technology, Tax Reporting, Analysis, and Business Intelligence, and VAT in 2010 and New Developments. Attendees also received valuable insight through Vertex Customer case studies underlining the benefits of tax automation.
